a drawing
by Louise Bourgeois. What inspires me in her work is the freedom. There’s some kind of freedom in certain movements you see in her work. It gives the feeling of drawing like a child. The colours she uses are strong, they have an important role in her work. I also like that some of the drawings seem like quick little sketches. Like the left one where you see a piece of text from a book it seems.
a painting
by Sarah Lipska. She worked with textile but also painted a lot. It’s funny because her paintings are quite abstract but the is definitely some kind of final image of a person or a subject. In her textile design she is much more abstract than in her paintings. The combination between the neutral colours, like grey and brown, and the flashy colours, like pink and orange, is fascinating to me. It feels really pleasing to look at. Maybe because the neutrals give you more of a realistic feel and the flashy colours make it more fiction, so the combination makes it very interesting to look at.
a sculpture
by Nnenna Okore. She works with recycling, transformation and regeneration of environmental man-kind forms. She mostly combines materials together. Her process is inspired by traditional women's practice, the African environment, third world economies and recycled waste. What inspires me in her work is the use of materials and the different techniques she uses to bring them all together into one piece.
a sculpture
by Monika Grabuschnigg. This is from a project of hers called In delirium I wear my body. This is a sculpture of a derealized body. Her work is about the changes from physical to virtual. The changing experience of reality is something she tries to represent with her work. I am very inspired by her work because of the spacial aspect. I want to experiment more with this too. Also the fact that she makes 3D works but also 2D works with clay, almost clay paintings. I love the different uses of the material.
a book
with the works of Joan Miró. He was a painter. His works have some elements of surrealism and are very colorful. I recognise myself in his painting, so his work spoke to me when I found this book. Very interesting story about his life and what kind of artist he was.
Abstraction
has been an important theme for me this past semester. Somehow it found it's way into almost every project I did. I have been doing a lot of research on it and it has been a very inspiring journey or me. Here you will find a part of the outcome of this research.
